April 18th 2011

Today was an interesting day for shooting, as one of the interesting parts of this project is trying to find new, approachable people in places that I find myself everyday. All the strangers in this post were found around school during my free period, and it's fun to find out the people who spend their time around here. I'm really upping the number of portraits I want to shoot this week (and locations I'm going to visit!) and so I'm really focusing on finding a new source of people to tap into within Portland. Wish me luck!

Stranger 23:
Name: Kawaji
Age: 54
Kawaji was the substitute teacher today for my art class, and though she was fine with me taking her picture, she was very picky about which one I got to use for the final! She told me the joke: "Descartes walks into a bar and the bartender asked if he would like a drink. Descartes replied, "I think not!" and poof, he was gone."

Stranger 22:
Name: Jay
Age 18
Jay was getting coffee.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Stranger 21:
Name: Kevin
Age: 33
Kevin was on his work break when I took his portrait. He has "faith" and "loyalty" tattooed on his neck as a reminder of what is important to him. His favourite colour is green and he doesn't like dogs.

Stranger 20:
Name: Nathan
Age: 20
Nathan was at work when I took his portrait, at the car detailing. He loves his car (pictured).

Stranger 19:
Name: Anthony (Burrito)
Age: 24
When I took his portrait he was hanging out on the curbside with his friends. He really digs John Travolta and Patrick Swayze circa the late 70s and early 80s.

Stranger 18:
Name: Zach
Age: 22
Zach works at Washington Square and moved to Portland 2 months ago. He loves music and is the lead singer of a band called "541 Cause"

Stranger 17:
Name: L.J.
Age: 25
L.J. is the new worker at Cafe Mango by school, and it was her first day when I took her portrait.

And just for fun....

The "YMCA" boys from the car detailing by school! haha!
